Titles & AI Visibility: from 5.9% to 10%

Two weeks ago we found out that most crawlers could not see our page titles. We fixed them, and then fixed the problem the fix exposed. Across all four engines, the share of answers that name Laup went from 5.9% to 10%. Claude gave us the result we expected, and Gemini and Copilot came along too: all three now name Laup at least twice as often. ChatGPT did not move.

What we fixed

Before we started, our page titles arrived after the body of the page for every crawler except Bing's. Brave, the search index Claude uses, had named our homepage “laup.ai wordmark” after a hidden logo description. On 25 September we moved the titles into the head where they belong, and rewrote most of them to say what the page is.

Once Brave could read our titles, it probably also learned which Norwegian pages had English twins, and our Norwegian pages disappeared from Claude: it got the English version instead. On 29 and 30 September we unpaired them, and the Norwegian pages came back.

Two weeks later

Measured

Each fix is a card on our own board. When a card goes live it freezes the two weeks before as its baseline, and every nightly run since adds to the after side.

Three cards on Laup's action board on 8 October. #24 Rewrite marketing page titles: +4.5 pp, day 12 of 14. #25 Get Laup's real page titles into Brave, Claude only: +4.7 pp, day 13 of 14. #26 Serve Laup's page titles in the head to ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini: +3.9 pp, day 13 of 14.
Our board on 8 October. #24 is the title rewrite, #25 the fix measured on Claude, #26 on ChatGPT, Copilot and Gemini.

Share of all answers that name Laup, the two weeks before against the 13 nights since:

Gemini2.6%7.9%

Claude is the one we predicted, since Brave is the index it searches. Gemini and Copilot we expected to stay about flat, and they moved as much as Claude did.

Laup's dashboard on 8 October: AI visibility by category and engine, the share of brand-naming answers that named Laup over the last 7 days. General: ChatGPT 25%, Gemini 17%, Claude 11%, Copilot 23%. AI visibility and monitoring: 10, 10, 8 and 3. AI optimization: 13, 8, 11 and 6. AI readiness: 14, 6, 14 and 11.
Our own dashboard on 8 October, the last seven days: Laup now shows up on every engine in every category we track.

We changed some front-page copy in the same two weeks, so not every point of that is titles. But before we started, Claude could not even see what our pages were called. Now it can, and it finds our Norwegian pages again.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT already named us more than the others, and it did not move. When it reads a laup.ai page it names Laup almost every time. The problem is that it mostly reads our homepage, and a better title does nothing for a page the engine rarely finds. That is the next thing we look at.

What we take from it

Check that your titles are in the head of the page, not streamed in after the body. If you have pages in two languages, check that the language tags don't make an engine swap your page for its twin. And submit the pages you change to Bing, Brave and Google Search Console instead of waiting for the crawlers. That is the end of the titles series.
