How we work with our AI visibility

How sensitive are prompts?

We watch around 45 prompts for laup.ai every night. How sensitive are they to the exact phrasing? And when we improve on those prompts, do we also lift our AI visibility overall? We took 20 of them, changed the wording, and looked at what the engines searched for.

How sensitive

Measured

20 prompts; 10 that find us and 10 that don't. Each got two new versions. In the first we swapped a few words: prompts that find us were moved away from the words on our pages, and prompts that never find us were moved toward the words of a page we have. In the second we replaced every content word and kept the question.

Keep in mind which way the words moved. To steer away from our pages we mostly picked less common words: KI instead of AI (both are used in Norwegian), webshop instead of nettbutikk (online store), chatboter, digital butikk. So the drop shows how we do on the rarer ways of asking, not on every other way.

What the engines searched for

Measured

Before an engine answers with web search, it writes its own search queries, and those are mostly the prompt's own words, so new words make a new search. Three of the prompts, with the searches each engine ran on 19 October (up to two per engine), with a green dot where the search found laup.ai and a red dot where it missed:

  • Translated back, still found: the rewritten technical scan still made Claude search for "AI-synlighet nettbutikk".
  • Copied words, missed: in the platform prompt, "KI-synlighet" and "produkttekster" went straight into the search, and our pages use neither.
  • Who got named instead: the international SEO tools like Semrush and Ahrefs, not the Norwegian players.
  • ChatGPT held up best: it runs the most searches (3.7 per answer) and went from 60% to 37%; Gemini went from 50% to 7%.
  • One phrase opens a door: "AI-readiness-scan for nettbutikker" took that prompt from 0 to 11 of 12 answers.

Three nights at the same hour, measured through the engines' APIs rather than their apps. Every prompt and version, and every run up to 19 October, is in the full test data.
